For decades, Hillel has equipped UCLA’s students to be the leaders of tomorrow’s Jewish community.

Just as the University establishes a professional foundation for students’ futures, Hillel builds a Jewish foundation for their lifetime. We offer students meaningful services and enriching programs free of charge each day of the week, all year round. This is achieved through the support and charitable giving of individuals like you.

You've invested in the Jewish future time and time again. Will you allow Hillel the opportunity to sustain your vision for a steadfast Jewish people for generations to come by including Hillel in your future planning?

“Hillel was the place where I learned how to be a Jewish adult.

I was able to form a lifestyle and an identity around the fact that I am a Jewish person guided by Jewish principles and Jewish values because I feel a responsibility to my community.

I learned that from my Hillel."

"Each year I must make a required distribution from my IRA and here's something everyone should know:  if you don't need the income, you can allocate your distribution direction to a qualified charitable 501c3 organization and then the funds aren't taxed! I'm in the fortunate position to be able to do this and am supporting Hillel at UCLA as a result.

As a UCLA alum and current UCLA Senior Scholar and participant in the Ziman School of Real Estate at Anderson, I know just how big and overwhelming UCLA can be.  By getting connected to Hillel, students can narrow in on a smaller slice of UCLA Jewish life.

With all the craziness going on, Hillel is especially important.  I'm proud to play a role in sustaining Hillel by making an IRA charitable transfer, year after year."

There are various ways to make your impact on Hillel's future

Bequest

A bequest is a gift for Hillel in your will or revocable living trust.  Your donation can be designated to support a specific aspect of Hillel’s programs or remain unrestricted.  Simply add a paragraph of text provided by Hillel to your will or trust - every gift is appreciated no matter the amount. Suggested language is ‘I give (cash of $_________) or (specified property) or (____% of my estate) or (the residue of my estate) to Hillel, the Foundation for Jewish Campus Life at UCLA located at 574 Hilgard Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90024. EIN #46-0573247

IRA and Retirement Assets

Naming Hillel as beneficiary of your IRA or Retirement Assets can save your loved ones sizable tax bills (distributions to non-charitable beneficiaries are taxable at ordinary income rates, however Hillel pays no income tax providing our students with the full benefit). Complete a beneficiary designation from through your plan administrator (your Will does not govern your IRA, 401(k) or other qualified plan).

Trusts

Charitable remainder trusts pay lifetime income to donors and/or other named beneficiaries. Cash, appreciated stock, real estate or other property is transferred to the trust. The donor receives income back, a partial income tax deduction in the year of the gift, and avoidance of capital gains tax if long term appreciated property is contributed.

Securities

Gifts of appreciated stock (including stock in closely held companies) may also be made. Gifts of long term appreciated stock (held more than one year) avoid capital gain taxes and their full fair market value is deductible as a charitable contribution from income taxes.

“My time at Hillel helped me to understand that changing the world didn't have to be one part of my Jewish identity, it could be the entire bedrock of it. Time I spend fighting inequality is time spent being Jewish. I learned that if you see something missing in your community, it may be up to you to build it. So, when I began to launch Swipe Out Hunger during undergrad, Hillel offered me encouragement, guidance and resources that I needed - from help printing posters to bridging meaningful connections with community organizations. I am also grateful to have benefited from a strong, familial community through the Persian Community at Hillel within the greater framework of support and Jewish life that Hillel offers.”

"Hillel attracts the most talented and driven Jewish students and serves as a hub of learning, social connection, and worship. The diverse programs I participated in gave me the tools to run for student government, and my Hillel family became my biggest support as I was elected Student Body President of UCLA. I am forever grateful for the values learned from and the doors opened by this community, which have guided my entire professional life thereafter."

We Appreciate Your Commitment To Hillel at UCLA

Hi there,

Since beginning my work with Hillel at UCLA in 2012, I’ve had the honor of working with thousands of students and developing Hillel’s leadership training program, allowing us to drastically expand our impact each year on campus.

It’s been the most meaningful work of my lifetime, and I am constantly grateful to have the opportunity to do this work. My own journey was deeply affected by my Hillel experience, and it’s incredibly gratifying to be able to work with students in life’s most liminal moment of development.

You make all of this possible. Every interaction with students and community members, every Shabbat service, and every educational program would not be possible without the generous support of contributors like you. And with your help, I am confident that Jewish life will continue to flourish.

Jewish leadership, learning, and connection with Israel are essential to Jewish continuity in North America and our Jewish homeland. They are all made possible on campus only when generous and passionate community members see the opportunity to make a difference and take it.

We thank you for considering joining our Hillel Legacy Society by making a commitment to include Hillel in your estate plans. My wife, Rachel, and I plan to join you in this everlasting endeavor. In doing so, our values will be amplified alongside yours for generations.

Best,
Aaron Lerner Signature
